Icelandic Yule Lad - Shorty

Stúfur or Shorty or Stubby (14th Dec.) is the third Yule Lad to make his way down from the mountains, and a heroic feat it is indeed considering his short legs and the deep snow.

For all his effort it is a bit bewildering to discover that once he reaches a dwelling what Stúfur really craves is simply the scorched leftovers in unwashed pots!

The Yule lads are carefully packed and ready for international travel.

Stubby was the third called,
a stunted little man,
who watched for every chance
to whisk off a pan.

And scurrying away with it,
he scraped off the bits
that stuck to the bottom
and brims - his favorites.

The Yulelads are said to life in the mountains of Iceland and are sons of a terrifying ogress named Grýla and their father is Leppalúði.
