Icelandic National Skautbúningur Costume Apron Dress - Black with Gold

The National Skautbúningur Costume apron dress is in the spirit of the Icelandic National costume uniform designed by the painter Sigurður Guðmundsson in the years 1858-1860. Skautbúningur is especially designed in the 18th century from scratch as ceremonial costumes, was conceived as a modernized variation of the faldbúningur.

In recent years, there has been a big change in Icelandic design. In early 2009, Sjónabók was published in collaboration with the National Museum. The book contains Icelandic patterns from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The goal of publishing the book was, to encouraging today's designers to use the patterns of the old time for inspiration.
The apron comes in a beautiful purse that is gold embroidered like the apron.

The Icelandic National Costume ‘Þjóðbúningurinn’ symbolizes Iceland´s independence and is essential to the country´s identity.
There are five different types of women's national costumes; Skautbúningur, kyrtill, faldbúningur (“costume with hemline”), peysuföt and Upphlutur and are traditional daily wear of Icelandic women in olden times.

Size of apron: 85X66cm
Color: Black with Gold embroidered. 

The apron is woven from 100% polyester. They are iron-free and specially coated so that stains are less likely to settle in the fabric.
